Eligibility & Selection
Consideration for the Cal Poly Scholars Program is automatically determined upon admission to the university. There are no additional application or forms to complete. Students are notified if they have been selected for a Cal Poly Scholars award when they receive their financial aid package, usually in March before the start of their first year.
Selection for the Cal Poly Scholars Program is based on the following criteria:
- Graduation from a California high school
- Admission to the University and enrollment in a college/major that offers Cal Poly Scholars awards
- Completion of a financial aid application, either the FAFSA or California Dream Application
- A qualifying maximum and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as determined by the financial aid application
There are various scholarship awards available within the Cal Poly Scholars Program. These awards may include different scholarship funding amounts depending on college/major. Scholars with questions about their individual package should contact the Cal Poly Scholars Program or the Office of Financial Aid. All Cal Poly Scholars participate in the same living-learning community and programmatic supports.
Ideally, the program will provide a Cal Poly Scholars award to every eligible student. However, depending on availability of funding and the capacity of the program, priority for Cal Poly Scholars awards may be determined by GPA, SAT Score, and other admissions criteria.
The Cal Poly Scholars award will be renewed annually for all scholars who meet the academic and community requirements of the program.
